About the company
The Philippine Register of Shipping, Inc. (PRS) is the first-ever Filipino Classification Society established and registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission on June 26, 1989. It is a non-governmental, non-stock, non-profit independent technical organization established to assist the Government to enhance and promote the safety of life and property at sea and the protection of the marine environment.
We provide the necessary skills and technical support to improve and maximize shipowner’s responsibility on ship safety and marine environmental protection through the development, administration and verification of rules and standards for the design, construction and operational maintenance of various types and sizes of vessels and other marine related facilities.
PRS is certified to ISO 9001:2008 - Quality Management System and is on its way to certification to ISO 14001 - Environmental Management System and OHSAS 18001 - Occupational Health and Safety Management System. We shall also comply with the Recognized Organization Code based on IMO Resolutions A.739(18) on guidelines for the authorization of organizations acting on behalf of flag states and A.789(19) on specifications on the survey and certification functions of recognized organizations acting on behalf of flag states.
Our systematic approach and commitment to excellence in delivering our services from the vessel’s design stage and construction to operations give shipowners the assurance that they are operating a safe ship.
Income derived from fees from the classification of ships and other marine related facilities is used solely for the performance and improvement of our services and to finance worthy maritime safety projects and activities that would benefit the shipping industry as well as the maritime public.
The Philippine Register of Shipping (PRS) is duly accredited by the Philippine government through the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and widely recognized by the maritime community through their continued patronage.
